A Small World

Writer's picture: Made EzeMade Eze

Sunday the 28th of July 2024 and the title of today's reflection is going to be a small world. So, I was at a party yesterday and I met somebody who goes by the name John. I know him from a very good mutual friend of ours and I got talking to him and for the first time ever I

actually got to learn about his background and his work experience. It turns out that he actually knows a heap load about software engineering and actually deals with

a lot of software engineering and you might be wondering well what the hell does that have to do with like music or content creation or anything of the sort. And to be honest I actually was asking myself the same thing as he was kind of like you know kind of like beginning to expand on his expertise and you know kind of like this the kickstart company he recently began working for and I started asking myself these things because it's kind of like you know for quite a while I didn't know about until he started to

kind of like explain the reason why kind of like him together with his team started putting together this application that will effectively kind of like make lives better and more meaningful for anybody who kind of like wants to enter the creative industry as an artist or as a content creator. After talking to him long enough I eventually found out that he's effectively developing an app or managing an application.

Not necessarily an application per se, considering the fact that it is going to be operating on a web platform so it is going to be something that people are going to have to access through the internet. But it is effectively an opportunity for independent artists to benefit more from the streams that you independent artists, especially one that's been doing their thing for a while, they may

have a certain number of streams or they may have a certain number of monthly listeners but never really kind of like a face to the people that's actually listening to the music however many times a day. I actually remember like you know there was an occasion where there was somebody who actually like listened to a song like a hundred and seventy eight times in a day but we never actually got to find out, I never actually got to find out the person who was actually behind all of those listens and therefore I wasn't able to kind of like

build a relationship with this person. Well this particular person John like you know he's actually you know he's amazingly talented enough and he's amazingly kind of like kind enough and kind of like giving enough to the point that he you know that he basically joined this I believe this kickstart company called Komi and they're effectively in the process of maximizing and mastering their ability to provide this service for these artists where they basically bridge the gap between the listeners and between the artists and actually

giving them an opportunity to create and build a relationship. Not just one that is amicable but also one that is mutual, one that is financially benefiting to the artist rather than artists having to rely upon Spotify for streams, etc. Streaming, which by the way, pays very little. But that was my experience yesterday, and I really hope to get the opportunity to expand on this a lot further as I begin to venture into drafting my official blog post. But nevertheless, that's been my day.
