Do It Anyway

Writer's picture: Made EzeMade Eze

Here’s why music is one of the worst careers to get into, and why you’ll be silly enough to dive into it anyway.

Music as a hobby or side interest is great. With enough time and flexibility on your hands this can be an excellent mode of expression, and way of decompressing from a very demanding day. Music as a business is absolute hell and anarchy.

You’re likely to develop a split personality disorder because the person you need to be to do business well, is completely different from the person you need to be to do music well, and you’re in an industry filled with thousands of wayward artists who are just as delusional as you will be in thinking you’ll make it big on me day.

There’s no definitive ladder to the top l, whatever “The top” may be. Unless you gather yourself around a group of well versed, or well enthusiastic people willing to bridge your way towards success in the music industry, you will go through a painful process of trial and error to get any of your efforts to render long term results.

Sadly the work that gets you recognised has got nothing to do with the work that you find most enjoyable: The work you think and feel will get you the accolades you’re after will often get overlooked, and nobody starts raving about you until you’ve struck gold, and your song and face is all over the internet for everyone to see.

Depending on who you are and how much you yearn for the results of a great haul, music is 20% joy and 80% misery, but you’re going to love it. You’re going to feel grateful for every step of the way because it will turn you into who you’ve always been destined to be.
