Four Way Tug Of War

Writer's picture: Made EzeMade Eze

At the moment I’m sitting on my bed trying to compartmentalise all the thoughts that are racing in my head. There’s so much that I want to write about which is why I’m struggling to find something for my mind to latch on to with little to no distractions.

From all these racing thoughts and ideas one of the things themes that seem to recur regularly is this notion of IKIGAI. I’ve been surfing my way through the internet and social media as any regular modern human being would do and for some reason this word / acronym seems to be popping up more and more often.

I’m not 100% sure I want to jump on the bandwagon but I’m definitely a fan of how it breaks purpose down into four simple things: the things we love, the things we’re good at, what the world needs, and what we can get paid for.

I think this word has come to mind a lot in my reflections because at the moment I’m struggling to find order in all the things I need to commit myself to. The truth is that I just want to follow my passion, but the things I’m needed, wanted, and the things I’m good for all seem to get in the way.

Like right now I wish I could just be in the office studio next door, but the bills I need to pay aren’t gonna pay themselves and the house I’ve just spent an hour cleaning wasn’t going to get done unless I had something to do with it.

Somewhere in these words I’ve put together is the point Im trying to make, but I think that point is…I just wish I wasn’t under pressure to commit to the things that I don’t really love to do.
