Monday the 7th of October 2024 and the title of today's reflection is going to be Knowing Less. So experiences like today where I found myself kind of like journeying through London have continued to show me that as much as I think that I know and as much as I think that I
understand, as much life experience as I feel like I've kind of like picked up, not only is there more to know, more to learn, more to experience. But it really just goes to show that when it comes to my own contributions as a human being, in comparison to all of
the things and all of the foundations that have been laid over the decades, over the centuries and over the millennia, around the world, even in the places where I visit and I dwell now, there is literally no comparison. And it makes me reflect a lot on my self-importance. One of the things that I've always been very curious about is not necessarily the stigma, but the attitude that is effectively reflected upon artists.
So when somebody in a family of like lawyers, engineers, doctors, for example, kind of like the artist is always frowned upon, if that makes sense. Like, you know, the artist's role or the artist's kind of like journey into society,
isn't taken as serious as the role of a teacher, the role of a lecturer, the role of a mechanic. And I've always wondered why that has always been the case. But when I kind of like look at, you know, the history, not just cultural history, but then also kind of like history in general,
I tend to find that the things and the roles that have really, really, really laid the foundation, the things that have really propelled us to where we are today, let's say, for example, the people that have laid down the roads, the people that have invented, like, you know,
many of the systems that we rely upon today, transport systems, kind of like, you know, heating systems, electrical systems, sewage systems and stuff like that, I can now begin to understand why the artist isn't taken as serious. Whilst we do have a role that carries a certain degree of importance in society, I still feel like that role shouldn't
be exaggerated and it shouldn't be infected to such a degree that we now start to believe that we're more important than what we are. The truth of the matter is that we are important to a certain extent but there are definitely other avenues, other facets, other people, other structures and other elements of society that are just as important, if not more so important, to the integration of modern society, I guess.
