Never Made Sense To Me

Writer's picture: Made EzeMade Eze

Boom! Tuesday the 25th of June 2024 and you know I've always had questions about the family unit like the nuclear family unit at least in the traditional sense that I used to view the family unit from you know from a kid's perspective really and truthfully like you know I used to

see dad going to work, mum staying at home cleaning the house, cooking the food, cleaning the dishes and doing all of that sort of stuff, looking after myself and my younger brother. I don't think it gets any more nuclear than that. I don't think

it gets any more traditional than that. But I just never understood how as a parent or even as an individual or a couple anyway, how you're supposed to meet the demand of your job, meet the demand of the house that you're living in or the roof that you're living under, how you're supposed to keep track of your kids or your children's growth, parent them, still social life within your own life outside of the family and outside of work and stuff like that. How you're supposed to balance all of these things with a limited amount of time

and a limited amount of money. Because the scary and dangerous thing about becoming a parent, especially if you don't make a great deal of money, is that you don't have a great deal of time. You're effectively kind of like you know almost axing the amount of time that you have in half because you have to dedicate so much time to the maintenance and to the nurture and to the nurture of your own children. So again you know to kind of like summarize that like you know you're an adult yes you might be you know in a nuclear

family like you know you might be living with another adult, the two of you kind of like work as a team, but it's kind of like, you know, even if you have like one child, right, even if you have like one child, like, you know, kind of like dividing your time so that you have, you know, a fair amount of time for yourself, a fair amount of time for the work that is also demanding, by the way, work, which in my opinion, you know, takes majority of your time anyway. And then, you know, you're meant to have time to maintain your own house, so kind

of like keep up with the bills and keep up with the upkeep and the financial upkeep, the physical upkeep of your own building, the physical and financial upkeep of your own children and kind of like still have a social life. That model to me never ever made any sense. For anybody who's kind of like increase the efficiency within which kind of like, you know, you earn your own money so you don't have to spend that much amount of time earning that much money like, you know, you know, effectively spend less time

earning more money because that's going to give you the time that you need to effectively Oh, and I forgot to mention, by the way, rest, you know, finding doing all of those things and then resting at the same time. I don't know, it's never made any sense. I've watched and I've observed like a lot of families kind of like growing up as a kid and you know like you know I've seen you know I look around and I you know pay attention to like you know who we are now as adults and I'm not entirely certain that we're the most you know that we've grown in

the most efficient way. Yes our parents did our best but you did their best but they also kind of like you know in a not so polite way of putting it, they've also kind of like, you know, ignorantly, you know, followed in the same footsteps of like, you know, the people that have come decades and decades before them. Because this to me just doesn't make any sense at all.
