Not Necessary

Writer's picture: Made EzeMade Eze

Thursday the 18th of July 2024 and the title of this reflection is going to be not necessary. Now I think I was just basically like driving to a job about 52 minutes away whilst I was on the phone to my friend and we kind of like got talking a little bit about gaming a little bit about

music and a little bit about life and I was basically trying to express to him that like, you know, really and truthfully as an artist, like, you know, to make a living, you don't need the things that you kind of like either seen on TV or the things that you've seen on your phone to become successful. I mean, sure, like, you know, if you get to, let's say for example, if you get to like

Michael Jackson status, or if you get to like Adele status, like that wouldn't necessarily be such a bad thing. I mean the amount of recognition that you would get from the fame, from like you know the financial success I guess would be nice but one of the things that needs to be considered in that regard is that when it comes to that degree of success for a star it's a very very tiny tiny and I mean intrinsically tiny window for people to get through which

is why not many people get through it. You have to be extremely freaking talented both in the artist and in the entrepreneurial sense in order to get yourself that far and you probably need to be backed up by people all of whom need to know what they're doing. But in the grand scheme of things like you know one thing that also needs to be considered is that like you know when it comes to that degree of success like you know the thousands of people that do seem to get somewhere

like you know like maybe you might search up on YouTube you might find a you of that look behind the curve to see what's happening. I mean already from a financial point of view the game is not clean at all. Like you know if you're working at a regular 9 to 5 you can be assured that if you clock in at 9 and you clock out at 5 you will be paid for those hours. You know and if you're lucky to get paid enough, you know if you're

lucky to get paid for your break you will be paid for that break too. There is a dedicated person who sits in a chair from a given time to a given time, calculating everybody's pay and everybody's pay is accurate to the penny. When it comes to the music game, that all goes out of the freaking window, because who does that? Like, you know, whenever you go to a show, let's say for example, you go to perform at a show, who's the person that's going to make sure that you actually get money in your hand? You need to hire that person, by the way, and that responsibility

is going to be on you. One of the things that I find hilarious, I guess, to a certain degree is that like you know one of the things that I'm beginning to learn is that you know in this industry people very you know this is a very common thing where people don't get paid money goes missing or you know it takes time for people to cash out from you know on payments I mean like you know there's a there's an artist out there called ambush who was effectively talking about this you lost out on you know twelve thousand pounds

like literally because the person either decided not to pay him or was taking long to pay him or just didn't outright pay him at all like it's you know this is a very ugly side of the freaking music industry that I feel like people don't really talk about and it's like you know you need to take it to consideration like you know whenever you're looking out there you're looking at people that are doing well or they seem like they're doing well right you

need to kind of like look at the whole picture and ask yourself whether you know whether you because again This is something that we all do we all look at ourselves online And we all compare ourselves and we begin to derive the quality of our you know success in our own music career Based on the success of others and you know if we're doing comparatively well in comparison to others Then we won't feel so bad whereas if other people are doing comparatively well, seemingly by the way, then it means that we're just basically not doing well at all, which I don't believe to be necessarily true.

So one of the things that needs to be considered is that, what does it mean? What is your own success? How would you define your own success? And it's not something that you can figure out within five minutes sitting on a desk. You need to go out there in the world and see what territory you can claim for yourself, what reputation you can claim for yourself.

At the moment I'm kind of like smiling as I'm saying this because it's like you know I'm going out there and I'm seeing where I can build a reputation for myself, a meaningful reputation for myself, like you know a place where I can create music for people not just to feel alive but to you know to feel connected, to feel you know to be you know to recognize you know the definition of their own reality and it's a beautiful thing. Yes of course I can definitely make bank, I can definitely make money from this as well

and you know I can make a living from this. It's just that I guess what I'm trying to say is that like you know all of the you know the fancy stars, you know the late night parties, the great grand big successes, meeting huge huge people on the freaking red carpet, it's not necessary.
