I was thinking about this whilst I was working my way through my weekly scheduling process: “no matter how painfully remedial this is, it’s not the Western front”. When I think about it it’s actually true.
This week I started watching a limited Netflix series called gunpowder. After about 15 minutes of watching it I remembered an epiphany I somehow allowed myself to forget. As self-centred as we can be in this modern day and age, we really are far from the focal point of this entire existence.
What I mean to say, is that there have been countless people who have walked this earth before us, and the life that they had to persevere through in comparison to what we have to do struggle for in this day and age, is quite frankly far too inconceivable for me to describe it into words.
Thousands of people who have walked this earth before us have dealt with adversities that really and truthfully, make it very difficult for me to argue that my life is anything but a walk in the park.
Sure, they might be a few snags here and there, but for the mere fact that I can build a life for myself, a life in which I have running water, gas and electricity, all from the comfort of my own desk simply makes me laugh at the idea that my life is hard.
As difficult as it might seem to think that we have everything that we need our fingertips, there will always be somebody who has to deal with much worse, and if there’s something about our life that we don’t like, at least we’re in a far better position to do something about it.
