Sunday the 15th of October 2024 and the title of today's reflection is going to be Perception. So perception is actually like an interesting one when it comes to kind of like a core single journey through kind of like a musical journey not necessarily like a music journey a journey
through the music industry is what I'm talking about. Perception is actually a very interesting kind of like word, that I'm not entirely certain if it actually comes up that often in kind of like conversations
relating to kind of like the music industry, working in the music industry, or trying to effectively become a successful artist in the music industry. Perception is actually like quite interesting, and yet for some reason, you know, as interesting as it is, it doesn't come up quite often in public discourse. But it's interesting to think how perception effectively plays a role in one's ability to effectively navigate through their own personal music journey in the music industry. I'm only thinking about that now because I'm thinking about how age plays into it,
wealth plays into it, status plays into it, so many other things, culture plays into it, backgrounds, ethnic backgrounds can play into it, even ability and disability, all of these elements are like kind of like tropes or traits or categories or things that people use effectively to weigh their position in the music industry. I find it a very delicate subject to dance along because it does also kind of connect to personal identities. But I'm thinking about the way that I see it anyway. It's not about the way that I see it, but I find it interesting because it's almost not necessarily ironic but it's funny that
I am here, effectively thinking about how I can navigate and how I can compete against the big dogs in the game, the people that have been doing this for a long time. What I'm effectively trying to say is that it's funny because part of the big reason why I often think intrinsically about trying to become successful in the music industry is because I recognise the traits in the characters that effectively don't work in my favour when it comes to perception. So yeah, age plays into it, I'm not exactly the youngest boy on the block.
Ethnicity yes, whilst it does play into my favour in some ways, if I'm way too educated, depending on my ethnicity that also kind of like plays against my favour but yeah just like little things like that perception is actually pretty interesting when it comes to the music industry.
