The Land Of Delusion

Writer's picture: Made EzeMade Eze

Sunday the 21st of July 2024 and I think I want to title this reflection the land of delusion. Now the funny thing is is that I was watching an Instagram reel the other day and I think the person that was presented in this Instagram reel was talking about how like you know artists are

supposed to be kind of like you know in in delusion land if that makes any sense at all like artists are the leave everything else out. I couldn't argue that to be any way further from the freaking truth. I don't believe that artists do, especially rap artists, do have the right to be in delusion land. Because in order for you to be a successful rap artist at some point, unless you decide to kind of like remain in your own space and share your music with a very small crowd, Like, you know, you do have to be very realistic about a bunch of stuff. Like, you know, I tend to find that, like, you know, a lot of rap artists who are in

this state of delusion do often kind of like put unrealistic expectations on managers, booking agents, promoters, like anybody at all who works with you. Because it's like you are out there maybe having or making enough money to kind of like pay somebody to like do a small service, like, for example, I don't know, draw you a cover art, for example, but then the way that you treat them and the way that you behave towards them after you've paid

them to do that job is absolutely ridiculous. It's like you expect them to drop everything at the pin, you know, at the drop of a hat just so that you can go ahead and fulfill this idealistic dream of yours. No, artists do not, you know, I don't think that artists should spend that much time in freaking delusion land because it's like, it's like, you know, I feel like in order for you to spend a lot of time in delusion land, you have to realize where the boundaries are, like, you know, like where you are in expectation to like where you expect

yourself to be in your mind and where you are in actuality, like how people expect and how people perceive you. It is one of those things really and truthfully that often goes unspoken about, but I tend to find that this is a very ego-based industry. Like, you know, it's always about the person who is effectively willing to say the most controversial stuff,

will basically be, you know, the superstar that they are. And I just think, to be honest, I think it's just silly. I think it's silly that we sit there and effectively compare ourselves to like all of these, I don't know, just, like, it's interesting, it's interesting, like, trying to be in delusion land whilst you're trying to be, like, on the ground, like, you know, building a business

for yourself or building a clientele, like, those are two different and two interesting kind of, like, roles that you're playing there. And often at times when it goes underlooked just a hindrance.
