The Need To Be Outstanding

Writer's picture: Made EzeMade Eze

So much has changed since I uploaded my very first song to Soundcloud back in 2016. In fact so much has changed since I uploaded my first song ever which I believe would have been in 2008 when I uploaded an MP3 file to MySpace.

Being somewhere close to 14 years old back then doing things in this fashion made sense. I didn’t have any real understanding of how I was going to be famous one day, I just clicked upload, sat back and hoped for the best scenario.

After all, this was uncharted waters that I was sailing on would anybody disagree? The chance to become famous overnight was way more favourable back then when the internet was much younger and big companies didn’t have a tight grip across its perimeter.

Heck back then people’s brains had to work to figure out whom the voice of an artist belonged to because back then people didn’t even need to show their face to be famous! It was a process that was as simple as click upload, and follow through as many times as possible until something happened.

Having developed since those early experiences I’ve learned that there’s only so much I can do to succeed before I need to get creative to stand out from the crowd. Many of the artists I observed back then were merely playing the guessing game, and truly didn’t have a clue as to what they were actually doing.

I’ve been following in the same fashion for quite a while before I started sprinkling a little thought to my actions. What can I add to the value of this MP3 that will make the song a more compelling download or listen?

This is where I realised that Spotify uploads in todays era are only going to do so much. I need to upload my concept, context and visual game if I’m really going to arrest the attention of any crowd big or small out there on the internet.

It’s a daunting task but at the same time I hunger for a challenge and I simply won’t back down from it. Intelligence, self preservation and honour is seldom expected from an area drenched in crime and poverty, and I want to show the world just how wrong they can be about that.
