You’re Gonna Need A Bank

Writer's picture: Made EzeMade Eze

Right now I'm really trying to think about how somebody is going to be able to make it through the rap industry without spending a single penny. Now theoretically if somebody decided to write a series of acappellas and perform on the street without any single instrumental playing in the background, doing that for the majority of the career they might just be able to get away with it.

The truth on the other hand is that there is a significant chance that you're gonna need a bank in order to fund your music career. This is something that I began to learn the longer I continued along my journey.

Whether the bank is going to be provided by the record label or provided privately by yourself, it's going to be entirely down to you. The bottom line of it is that you will especially in this day and age need to think about having a budget for all the potential things that you're gonna be spending your money on.

How are you going to afford studio time? If it's not going to be studio time, how are you going to fund your bedroom studio? Who is going to mix your songs for you? Who are you going to get your beats from and how much are you going to be spending on them? We live in an age where visuals propel the engagement of most users on the biggest social platforms, how are you going to create your content and how are you going to produce your music videos? What tools are you going to use?

In my opinion it is possible to answer all of these questions as cheaply as possible perhaps to the point in which you are not spending anything at all, but at the same time I fear that in reality if you want to leave a good impression, if you want to build a long-lasting career, and if you want to create a brand that is going to be perceived well by audiences, chances are you're going to be the bank.
